Making memories through Thanksgiving traditions is something many parents look forward to when sharing holidays with their children. For most people, these passed-down traditions make lasting impressions and memories that endure for generations.
There are many different big and small customs that you can start for the first time this year. So to help inspire you to make this holiday season the one that creates a long-lasting family legacy, here are some helpful ideas.
Have A Baking Party – Everyone loves cookies and desserts, and kids can join in on the fun. Regardless of whether you prefer to bake from scratch or get a head start with prepackaged cookie dough, cake mix, or other goodies, there are multiple ways to get your little helpers involved. Let them help you decorate the treats or sort the ingredients so they know how to make their favorite holiday recipes for future generations.
Volunteer – Thanksgiving is a time for giving. Spending some time in service to the less fortunate has a way of putting life in perspective, shining a whole new light on how we celebrate our blessings. In addition, volunteering together allows you to teach your kids about community service and giving back while doing something rewarding that helps others.
Take A Family Walk – After such a big meal, getting exercise is usually the last thing on anyone’s mind. However, the fun doesn’t have to come to an end. Take a walk together after dinner – not only will it help you digest and burn off calories, the fresh air and time together will do everyone some good.
Have A Game Night – And we’re not talking video or mobile games! Instead, with extra days off from school, break out the classic (age-appropriate) games like Jenga, Scrabble, checkers, Monopoly, etc. Game night doesn’t have to be competitive or anything fancy – just some good old-fashioned fun spent with loved ones. Alternatively, you might work on a puzzle, make holiday crafts, host a dance party, or call it a holiday movie night. The choice is yours!
Break Out The Christmas Decorations – Christmas can’t come too soon for many kids. If there’s no energy left to decorate after cooking, eating, and cleaning up after a big meal, plan to begin decorating for Christmas on the day or the weekend after turkey day. That way, you won’t end up with too much on your plate!
Whatever You Do – As long as you spend quality time with your kids, any activity is good. The most important thing is that you’re all having fun together and will have something to look forward to every year.
Thanksgiving traditions are what make the holiday so special for families. Whether you’re starting a new custom or making an old one even better, these ideas are sure to bring your family closer together.
Make Memories That Last A Lifetime
Remember, children are only young once! So don’t allow another holiday season to pass without creating Thanksgiving traditions they’ll never forget.
Whether you’re celebrating your first holiday season with children or your nieces, nephews, grandchildren, or friends’ kids, many different traditions are appropriate to pass one generation to the next.
